It is best to make sure you the audience is analyzed well so that you or the speaker knows how to relate without pandering. These are questions that should be asked to whomever you are writing for or before you write your own speech. A speech may inform, persuade, activate or celebrate so make sure your audience feels one of these actions.

Seriously, after meeting and preparing a draft for your client then prepare an extensive outline of the speech to help you write it better. When writing, make sure it covers the main topics: problem, complication and resolution.
