Fake news has been around for almost as long as real news has. In light of recent events, it has been more apparent and brought out that fake news is dangerous thing without fact checking. Business can fall for these “fake news traps” if they have deadlines for blog or social media posts and they do not properly research what they are going to say. Here are a few ways that can help anybody not fall for fake news.
Check your sources – It is really easy to look at a post or read a headline and share it with your audience without looking at it and seeing where is came from. Fact-check it using a few different sites to authenticate it. See who sent out the post and where it came from because that may help prove its authenticity as well.
– Subscribe to authentic newspapers and websites that are reliable. These news outlets will have authentic stories that you will be able to talk about and cite in the blog posts.
Correct your mistakes – If you happen to fall for fake news and share it with others, correct it as soon as possible. Denounce the false fact and let your following know about the mistake. Either fix the original posts or delete it all together.
