HOW TO EXECUTE AN EVENT PART 1: BEFORE THE EVENT

Planning an event is part of being in PR. However, before the event takes place, there are some things that you should do.

Before the event

  • Identify your target audience

  • You should know who you are targeting in order to plan the event with the main focus of that event around them

  • Select a date

  • Keep in mind of when you are scheduling your event- ex: around a holiday, other events going on that same day.

  • Spread the word

  • Think about what social media you will use to reach your audience ex: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. Promotion is essential.

  • Choose a sponsor

  • Think about who you want to sponsor your event and make sure that the sponsorship intertwines with your clients goals.

  • Prepare for the worst

  • Consider things that could go wrong and map out how you would resolve issues. Your job is to fix the problems before they become problems.

  • Map out a plan

  • Create a budget, timeline and a checklist.
