Brochures are used to give out basic information about an organization, a product, or a service.

Whenever an organization needs to explain something to a large number of people - a brochure is the way to do it! Here are the Do’s & Dont’s of what makes a good brochure:

What To Do

Find a Goal & Stick to It

It is very important to figure out what you want your audience to get out of the brochure when reading it. Make a list of the information you need to provide, anything else eliminate.

Consider Quality of Quantity

Evaluate the importance of the brochure and determine whether or not you will splurge

on light or heavy paper. Heavy paper will easily impress and create an illusion of quality

Use Serif and Sans Serif Fonts

Although many fonts such as Script and Old English. Look unique and appealing they are very hard to read. Consider the reader and make it easy for them by

using Serif and San Serif fonts

What Not To Do

Less is Always More

Avoid adding too much information, a brochure should be direct and straight to the point. A wordy and lengthy brochure is not appealing

[if gte vml 1]><v:shapetype id="_x0000_t75" coordsize="21600,21600" o:spt="75" o:preferrelative="t" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" filled="f" stroked="f"> <v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke> <v:formulas> <v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"></v:f> <v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"></v:f> <v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"></v:f> <v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"></v:f> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f> <v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"></v:f> <v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"></v:f> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f> <v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"></v:f> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f> <v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"></v:f> </v:formulas> <v:path o:extrusionok="f" gradientshapeok="t" o:connecttype="rect"></v:path> <o:lock v:ext="edit" aspectratio="t"></o:lock> </v:shapetype><v:shape id="image08.png" o:spid="_x0000_i1026" type="#_x0000_t75" alt="Description: Image result for less is more" style='width:468pt;height:62pt; visibility:visible;mso-wrap-style:square'> <v:imagedata src="file://localhost/Users/Student/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/msoclip/0/clip_image001.png" o:title="Image result for less is more"></v:imagedata> </v:shape><![endif][if !vml][endif]

Proofread Your Own Work

Many make the mistake of proofreading their own work and unfortunately do not caught them on time

[if gte vml 1]><v:shape id="image06.png" o:spid="_x0000_i1025" type="#_x0000_t75" alt="Description: Image result for proofreading" style='width:105pt;height:105pt; visibility:visible;mso-wrap-style:square'> <v:imagedata src="file://localhost/Users/Student/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/msoclip/0/clip_image003.png" o:title="Image result for proofreading"></v:imagedata> </v:shape><![endif][if !vml][endif]

Do Not Reinvent the Brochure

People have certain expectations in a brochure – for example the size. Stick to standard sizes such as full page (8-1/2” x 11”) or slim jim (3-2/3” x 8-1/2”) People are not as likely to hold onto odd shapes and sizes.
