#PitchesBeCrazy

In everything, there is an element of persuasion to get people to listen to what you have to say. Imagine back to when you were a toddler, and you used that famous excuse, “But mom, all of my friends are doing it!” (Even though that usually ended with a “Well if all of your friends jumped off a bridge…”).

You want to have enough facts to support your story. You want to be sure you are doing as much research on the topic in order to make it more appealing to your audience. Also be sure your facts are reliable.

But most importantly, you have to persuade whomever you are sending your work to that they have a spot for it. This is called sending a pitch. Showing them how it fits into their website and relates to their other content will give them a reason to publish it- which is the end goal. Be a salesman for your own work. Be proud of what you created, and show your contact why it deserves to be published.

It’s interesting. It’s focused. It’s content that connects to the platform it’s made for. It’s concise. It’s well thought out. It’s timely. It’s a popular topic.

Don’t oversell yourself by saying you’re the greatest writer that has ever held a pen or used a keyboard- but be sure to not be too shy about how kick-ass your writing is.
