Writing for PR can be daunting when first starting out, but with these 5 tips, it can be made easy and fun.

  1. PUT THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS FIRST!! Never be scared to use the inverted triangle. This will be your best friend in writing for PR. People want information as quickly as possible and do not want to be bothered with the meaningless details. Save them for last.

  1. SHORT AND SWEET. People are busy. Nobody has the time to read five pages of information when the message could have been said in a few sentences. Scanning is the new reading. Choose words that get the message across and grabs the readers attention as they scan.

  2. KNOW WHO YOUR READER IS. If your reader is a Harvard Scholar, then be sure that you gear your writing to that person. If the reader is a 15 year-old high school student, don’t use huge words that they are going to have to waste time looking up the meanings of. Know your audience. Make it relatable.

  3. GRAB ATTENTION!! BE BOLD!! Along with putting the most important facts first, make sure to word it in a way that will grab the attention of the reader. Be strong and confident in your writing. Use headlines that will turn heads and eyes of readers.

  4. RESEARCH, RESEARCH, REASERCH. Do your homework. You don’t want to write something with the wrong information. Although researching facts can be tedious, it is very important. It’s a lot easier to spend some time looking things up than writing a correction piece. Save yourself some heartache.
