Many people think “ohhh public relations (PR) is so easy. As a PR representative, all you have to do is be sure the public and your organization are cool with each other, right?” Yes! That is important; however, there is so much more!

There are four components to Public Relations:

  1. Research

  2. Action

  3. Communication

  4. Evaluation

Don’t let PR scare you. Focus on your relationship with the public and your organization through your research, actions, communication and evaluation. Start off by researching attitudes about the issue before you jump the gun with your own two cents. Next, start planning and setting up objectives to formulate your actions. After your well-crafted plan is ready, effectively communicate your message with your audience. The message given is intended to be the same message received, so be wise in your word choice, tone of voice and nonverbal communications. To sum up the process, take a look back at your strategies and see how you can improve them next.

Ta-Da! Now you can easily define Public Relations in four words.
